April's 2021 #sigfuschallenge consisted of creating a design using at least three colours and think about what they mean to us - and here is my entry.
I was truly inspired by @manusinmano_jewelry class at the last workshop, so I decided to make a statement necklace and this piece was made almost entirely of polymer clay - a piece of cotton cord is the only outsider here.
As some of you know, I am a bereaved mother and this necklace represents my motherhood, its colours and techniques are really meaningful to me.
The black and dark purple stand for the grief and pain of losing Noah, whereas the yellow is the bright sunshine light brought by Owen into my days, as of orange is the joy for the privilege of being chosen to be their mum.
As far as techniques goes, the Sutton Slice represents a scar, while the skinner blend reminds me of a sunrise, proving that there is hope. Rebirth.
This jewellery speaks of things that people want to avoid talking about, but it is my bittersweet truth, and I won't hide it because I know that somehow we are all striving to make beauty out of the darkness.
