Your First Jewellery-Making Workshop in Vienna: What to Expect

Trying something creative for the first time can feel a bit intimidating. Almost every week, someone arrives at my studio saying, "I'm not creative enough," or asking, "Will I be able to do it?"
And then, by the end of the workshop, they're proudly wearing pieces they designed themselves, and they can’t help but smile.
If you're wondering what happens during your first jewellery workshop in Vienna, this guide will walk you through exactly what to expect.
What happens at a Nikah Costa jewellery workshop?
First of all, you don't need any artistic experience. My workshops are designed to welcome everyone, with beginners especially in mind.
Everything is provided, you simply arrive, choose your colours, and start creating. I'll guide you through each step, so you never feel lost.
In every experience, you go home wearing your own creations, amazed at how the right guidance, perfect tools and a welcoming atmosphere can turn your ideas into wearable art.
In The Earrings Bar Workshop, I’ll guide you through the process of exploring colours, shapes and textures so you can design earrings that reflect your own style. You are always encouraged to trust your own instincts and create something that feels like you.
In workshops where you make your pieces from scratch, like The Earrings Lab or Terrazzo Earrings Workshop, for example, you will learn all the essentials of working with polymer clay, including conditioning, shaping and curing your pieces.
A relaxed, welcoming atmosphere
Expect a colourful, creative space, not an art class where everyone is everyone is silently concentrating or competing to make the "best" piece. You'll hear conversations, laughter and the occasional "Look what I made!" more than once before the workshop is over.
People often arrive alone and leave having met new friends. We chat, laugh, experiment, enjoy tea and cookies, and celebrate each creation. We play with colour, make a mess and leave our everyday routine behind, even if it is only for a few hours.
My goal has never been to teach perfection. It's to create a space where you feel comfortable experimenting, asking questions and enjoying the process. There is no pressure: everyone works at their own pace, and every finished piece is celebrated for what makes it unique.
In fact, I photograph every single one with pride (and a smile on my face).
Depending on the workshop you’ve chosen, you'll learn one or more techniques like:
* Colour mixing
* Earring design
* Marbling
* Texturing
* Finishing techniques (drilling and working with jump rings)

I’ve been teaching in different settings for years, from workshops to university classes, and I've realised that creativity grows from curiosity, experimentation and allowing yourself to play.
Watching someone reconnect with their own creativity is easily my favourite moment in every session. Some of the people I’ve met in class haven’t been in touch with their creativity since childhood!
Reconnecting with your self-expression, letting go of perfection and making room for creativity to grow are at the heart of my workshops. And honestly, you'll be surprised by what you can make.

Before you come
You don't need to bring any tools or prepare anything in advance.
Wear comfortable clothes, bring your curiosity, and be ready to experiment. I'll guide you through every step, from choosing colours to assembling your finished jewellery.
The workshops usually last from 2 to 3,5 hours, but allow yourself some extra time. Maybe you will be caught by the moment, and really, time flies when you are deep into your creative mode.
And be warned: creativity can be contagious! People usually arrive nervous, but always leave the classes already thinking about their next creations.
